METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TREATING PURULENT DESTRUCTION OF LUNGS Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

FIELD: medicine; pulmonology; treatment of purulent destruction of lungs complicated with bronchial fistulae. SUBSTANCE: fistula-bearing bronchus is endoscopically occluded by means of apparatus comprising flexible catheter inserted along its central axis into obturator. Catheter has elongate branch disposed inside fistula-bearing bronchus of pulmonary destruction cavity and terminating outside of thoracic wall, and shortened catheter branch having plug-closed end facing central segments of bronchial tree-like system. Elongate branch of catheter, over its portion 1-1.5 cm long immediately adjoining obturator, comprises perforated openings which are open into lumen of fistula bearing bronchus below occlusion level. Pathology focus is sanated with antiseptic solutions administered through open catheter end protruding outside, sanation being conducted under conditions of artificially created air- and liquid-tight seal in pulmonary destruction cavity. EFFECT: method offers three advantages: flawless selective occlusion of fistula-bearing bronchus; any possibility is ruled out for migration of obturator through bronchial system; adequate sanation of entire surface of pulmonary parenchyma below occluded area. 2 cl, 4 dwg
