INTERNAL COMBUSTION DIESEL ENGINE CONVERTED FROM SPARK IGNITION GASOLINE ENGINE Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

Abstract RU 2095584 C1

FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: multicylinder diesel engine has head 2 of cylinders 3 with wedge-shaped combustion chambers 11, intake valves 7 and exhaust valves 8 with V-shaped arrangement relative to each other, injection nozzles 9 with multihole spray tip 12 arranged in combustion chambers 1 vertically near longitudinal axis 10 of each cylinder 3. Each cylinder 3 has two intake valves 7 at one side of chamber 1 and two exhaust valves 8 at other side of chamber 1. Each combustion chamber 1 is made in form of surface of revolution, for instance, sphere 4, with cylindrical cavities 5 for seats 6 and plates of valves 7,8, it has glow plug 11 between intake valves 7. Spray tip 12 of each nozzle 9 has five atomizing holes. Axis of one hole lie as in plane perpendicular to longitudinal axis of engine at side of starting glow plug 11. Angle between any two adjacent axes of atomizing holes of nozzle spray tip is equal to 72 degrees in plan so that axes of four other atomizing holes are directed to sides of four valves 7,8 of cylinder 3, but are displaced in plan relative to centers of cylindrical cavities 17 for plates of valves 7,8. Axes of atomizing holes lie on surface of cone whose angle α is chosen to make the axes pass approximately through middle of height of cylindrical surfaces of cavities 5 for plates of valves 7,8 in spherical surface 4 of cylinder heads 2 below valve seats 6. Spherical surface 4 of combustion chamber in cylinder head has cavity 18 near spray tip 12 of nozzle 9 under axes 13 of four holes of spray tip 12 directed to intake and exhaust valves 7,8, respectively, of engine. Pistons 19 have flat spherical crown. Clearance between spherical surfaces of piston 20 and cylinder head 4 with piston 19 in top dead center is 1-2% of engine cylinder diameter. EFFECT: reduced expenses for converting four- valve gasoline engine into modern diesel engine with efficient mixing, high economy and ecological characteristics. 9 cl, 3 dwg
