FIELD: transport engineering; bicycle transmission. SUBSTANCE: stepless torque variator has housing in form of solid of revolution with bell-shaped inner space and ratchet teeth cut along space generatrics. Spring-loaded pawl of ratchet mechanism arranged in carriage engages with ratchet teeth. Carriage is installed for free travel along fixed axle. Carrier in form of solid of revolution is arranged inside housing. Outer surface of solid of revolution follows shape of inner space of housing. Carrier is provided with slots along generatrix for ratchet mechanism pawl. Torque is transmitted to housing directly through carrier and pawls. Pawls freely moving along generatrix of inner space of housing decreases or increases length of force application arm. EFFECT: reduced force required for propelling the bicycle. 3 cl, 5 dwg
