FIELD: stitching and binding. SUBSTANCE: inner book is placed on a conveying device, squeezed in it and drawn onto a flat knife carrying out a low-frequency motion for subsequent cutting of folds and working of the backbone. The device for preparation of the backbone has a base, conveyer and a tool assembly with a knife motion drive. The knife drive is installed on a plate inclined at an acute angle to the plane of the inner book backbone; the knife is set in motion by a motor by means of a double-crank tetralink consisting of drive and driven eccentric shafts kinematically coupled by means of the knife holder. Complete cutting of folds of the inner book backbone with simultaneous making of slots in it is accomplished during a number of cycles of knife motion. EFFECT: facilitated procedure. 3 cl, 3 dwg
