FIELD: coatings. SUBSTANCE: tool is polished and covered by tungsten carbide layer in working zone using e.g. spark or laser techniques, whereupon polishing is repeated and ion-vacuum coating is applied. After the first polishing operation, matrix phase may be shielded by charging with tungsten oxide powder, tungsten-based layer coated in working zone optionally containing at least one element from the group including ruthenium, rhodium, and palladium (0.05-0.2% each), and also 3-6% hafnium and 2-4% rhenium. EFFECT: improved procedure.
