FIELD: machine building. SUBSTANCE: multilayer material serving as a coating mainly for cutting and swaging tools is made up of inner layer about 1 mcm thick consisting of a hafnium (5-50%) and zirconium metal mixture, and outer layer 4-5 mcm thick consisting of a mixture of refractory hafnium and zirconium compounds (nitrides and carbonitrides), wherein inner layer additionally contains (in wt %) 0.08-0.26 tungsten, 0.15-0.3 tantalum, 0.08-0.26 rhenium, 0.15-0.45 molybdenum, 0.14-0.4 at a time of at least one metal of the group including ruthenium, rhodium, and palladium, and outer layer additionally includes 0.1-0.3 tungsten nitride, 0.2-0.4 tantalum nitride, 0.1-0.3 rhenium nitride, 0.2-0.5 molybdenum nitride, and 0.13-0.36 at a time of at least one metal of the group including ruthenium, rhodium, and palladium. Besides, there is a layer on the surface which contains 5-50 hafnium, 0.08-0.26 tungsten, 0.15-0.3 tantalum, 0.08-0.26 rhenium, 0.15-0.45 molybdenum, 0.14-0.4 at a time of at least one metal of the group including ruthenium, rhodium, and palladium, zirconium being to the balance.
