FIELD: hydrogenation catalysts. SUBSTANCE: catalyst is based on noble metal and/or noble metal oxide on alumina which, in its initial state, has following characteristics of X-ray diffraction (d[10-10м] and corresponding I/Io values are given): 4.51, 5-10; 2.76, 15-40; 2.64, 15-40; 2.37, 40- 45; 2.27, 25-35; 2.15, up to 15; 1.97, 55-70; 1.66, up to 15; 1.52, 15-30; 1.39, 100; 1.31, at most 15. Catalyst is prepared by adding noble metal salt aqueous solution to aluminum oxide. EFFECT: increased hydrogenation selectivity. 7 cl, 2 dwg, 3 tbl
