FIELD: equipment for moving heavy elongated rolled piece with large feed stroke at high speed and subsequently changing operation mode of feed drive mechanism to braking mode for accurately positioning rolled piece relative to working tool. SUBSTANCE: apparatus includes hydraulic motor 8 for rotating drum 5. At rotation of drum flexible filament 7 moves power cylinder 11 and feed carriage 5 joined with rods 12,13 of cylinder 11 and carrying rolled piece 1. Rotary hydraulic distributor 18 is driven by shaft of drum 5 through transmission 31. Discrete pickup 9 generates signal at full revolution of rotary member of hydraulic distributor 18. Said signal is fed to number program control system. When last but one revolution of hydraulic distributor 18 is over, signal of pickup 9 turns on hydraulic distributors 21 and 25. Carriage 3 is switched to braking mode and working fluid along hydraulic line 34 is supplied to inlet 33 of hydraulic distributor 18. When inlet of said distributor is coincided with opening of its rotary member working fluid is fed to control cavity 40 of hydraulic distributor 20. The last connects working cavity of drive 16 with draining pipeline 27 and drum 5 is braked by braking device 15. Signal of pickup 9 at termination of last revolution of hydraulic distributor 18 switches on hydraulic distributor 47 and rods of power cylinder 11 begin to move carriage 1 relative to its stationary body 14.
