FIELD: experimental hydrodynamics of ship; designing of dynamometers for towing tests of ship models and for self- propelled test in rigid harness. SUBSTANCE: dynamometer includes device with sensitive element mounted on towing carriage for connecting the ship model with towing carriage. It is provided with weight mounted on towing carriage and connected with model. It is movable relative to towing carriage to side opposite to probable motion of model relative to this carriage. Mass of weight is selected from condition $$$, where m is mass of weight, M is mass of model and $$$ is added mass of water, K is constant determined experimentally for specific dynamometer; i is ratio of relationship between model and mass.
