FIELD: production of carbon materials possessing sorption and cation-exchange properties which may be used by production of highly pure compounds, in medicine and pharmacological industry for production of haemo- and entherosorbents, for purification of biological liquids against ions of heavy metals and other toxic compounds. SUBSTANCE: method is carried out by liquid phase oxidation of carbon material with the help of nitric acid solution, the process is carried out at elevated temperature in the medium of urea. Then product is converted into H+ and/or salt form. Activated coal which is treated by oxidation solution is preferably used as said carbon material, ratio of nitric acid and urea in it ( weight parts) being 1:(0.17-0.37), respectively. Optimal temperature of treatment is 20-100 C. EFFECT: improved efficiency. 3 cl, 1 tbl
