FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: method for purifying diamonds is carried out in aqueous solutions of nitric acid under pressure and at an elevated temperature, wherein the previously prepared slurry of the charge with a solid phase concentration of 0.5-8% in an aqueous solution of nitric acid of 10-40% concentration with additives of 10-40 wp of ammonium nitrate for 1 wp of the charge is processed in an autoclave at a temperature of 180-280°C with continuous stirring of the reaction mass, which ensures the slurry in a suspended state with the removal of excess oxidation gases exceeding a predetermined pressure level in the range of 2-10 MPa until the release of gaseous products ceases, after which the reaction mass is cooled to 40-180°C, separated into a gas and a liquid phase, which are separately throttled to atmospheric pressure and washed with a deionized water slurry from the nitrate residues. The invention allows for the oxidative treatment of diamonds without the release of toxic nitrogen oxides requiring recycling and regeneration, and enables the maintenance of a high activity of the oxidizing agent throughout the reaction period.

EFFECT: as a result of purification of the charge of detonation dynamic synthesis, the level of residual oxidizable carbon and the residual ash content of the product decrease.
