FIELD: nuclear power plants for space vehicles. SUBSTANCE: nuclear reactor has vessel in the form of shell and tube plates joined together to pass coolant and accommodating coaxially installed fuel elements with moderator inserted between them. Moderator is coated with low-water-permeable material; vessel interior is filled with gas medium. Flexible members are placed in radial clearance between vessel shell and moderator to provide for radial fixation of the latter which do not interference with changes in its dimensions due to temperature and service period. Side surface of moderator has depressions; plates and flexible members are placed in longitudinal channel between reactor shell and depressions on side surface of moderator; plates come in contact with moderator surface; stiffness of flexible members is found from equation C = K•M•n(δ), where C is stiffness of flexible member; K is safety factor, K > 1; M is moderator mass; n is maximum overload; δ is minimal gap between coolant tubes and holes for them in moderator.
