FIELD: nuclear power plants for space vehicles. SUBSTANCE: setting current of conversion reactor in current control channel is adjusted to minimum desired value for typical power requirement of on-board equipment by ensuring desired minimal current into ballast load under these conditions. Optimal temperature of header is periodically measured, thermal resistance of clearance between power generating channel and cooling channel is adjusted by varying gas pressure in this clearance, and header temperature is adjusted to optimal value by minimizing electric power derivative with respect to coolant temperature at constant thermal capacity; optimal temperature of cesium vapor generator is periodically determined, temperature of cesium vapor generator is adjusted to optimal value by minimizing electric power derivative with respect to cesium vapor generator temperature. EFFECT: improved service life and serviceability of plant.
