FIELD: communication equipment, in particular, for compression of spectrum of arbitrary signals in systems for information transmission and processing. SUBSTANCE: during transmission method involves converting source signal to complex signal which is normalized for absolute value which is preliminary detected in source signal, compression of phase of normalized complex signal by factor of two in nth power and n-time calculation of square root from absolute value. This results in generation of single-band signal which is derived from source signal and which has spectrum frequency width with respect to source signal as fraction of two in nth power. During receiving this derived signal is converted into complex one and normalized for preliminary detected absolute value, n-time squaring of absolute value of resulted signal and multiplication of phase of derived signal by factor of two in nth power. Source signal is recovered from this signals to within constant factor and constant delay. EFFECT: increased functional capabilities. 3 cl, 3 dwg
