FIELD: removal of oil spills. SUBSTANCE: sorbent is a hydrophobized aluminosilicate material, in particular, waste resulting from combustion of dustlike coal in industrial furnaces with liquid slag removal and, as waterproofing agent, saturated hydrocarbon-containing wood-chemical or petroleum industry waste is used at aluminosilicate to waterproofing agent weight ratio 1:(0.001-0.30). Used are also aqueous emulsions of waterproofing liquids and aqueous latex solutions. Sorbent is prepared by treating aluminosilicate material by aqueous emulsion or aqueous solution of waterproofing agent at weight ratio of aluminosilicate, water, and waterproofing agent 1: (1- 10):(0.001-0.30) under stirring at 80-85 C (40-96 C) for 20-30 min, after which mixture is dried to constant weight at 100-120 C. When exhausted, sorbent is regenerated by mixing it with 0.5-25% ammonia solution at 20-50 C, after which floated up aluminosilicate material is withdrawn to be further reused. Method provides 99% purification of surfaces and its advantage is use of accessible, inexpensive sorbent with capacity corresponding to 1 to 10 g of petroleum product per 1 g sorbent.
