PIPE TESTING VALVE AND METHOD FOR REMOVING TESTING STRING FROM PERMANENT PACKER Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

FIELD: oil and gas production industry. SUBSTANCE: this valve is used in drilling string for pressure-testing of pipes and subsurface equipment, and particularly in cased wells in which permanent packer is installed. Valve allows for self-filling during lowering of string into well, and permits pressure-testing when it is installed in well stationary. Valve also allows for multiple introduction of string into permanent packers and for removing it from them without transferring tool to fixed open position. This is achieved due to application of ball valve with hole in tool body which can move in axial direction and rotate together with body passage. Ball valve has side holes and upper hole which regulate flow through valve. Ball component has slots which receive pins so as to permit ball component to turn when tool is found in packer and it interacts with valve seat for disturbing tightness and ensuring possibility for equalizing pressure in passage above and below ball component, thus allowing for tool to be removed from packer.
