FIELD: foundry. SUBSTANCE: method includes manufacturing refractory heat-insulating shell opened towards mold working hollow and use of mixture of thermit with metal which ensures, in its burning, formation of liquid metal in hot top similar in chemical composition to metal cast into mold. Distinguishing feature of the invention consists in that added to exothermic mixture is special exothermic inhibitor of thermit burning in the amount equalling that of thermit. Special exothermic inhibitor provides for burning reaction heat effect lower than that of thermit and limiting burning temperature of exothermic member of hot top to 2300 K. Weight of exothermic member amounts to 2.0-8.4% of weight of liquid steel in hot top. Exothermic core in the form of briquette is formed in upper part of refractory heat-insulating shell excluding direct contact of briquette material with raw mold, and surface of refractory heat-insulating shell coming in contact with raw mold is coated with thin moisture-proof film, for instance, polyethylene film.
