FIELD: breaking ice in water areas. SUBSTANCE: this is intended for clearing frozen water basins from ice cover. Device 1 has moving part 6 which is made up of pointed working member 7 and vertical housing 8 in which vibrating hammer 9 is installed. Vibrating hammer is connected by cable 10 with source of electric power. Device is provided with float 14 made with flat horizontal upper and lower end faces and circular vertical cylindrical hole 15. Working member 7 is secured to lower part of vertical housing 8 which is made round and cylindrical and installed in hole 15 of float 14 for possible longitudinal reciprocating motion. Upper part of housing 8 is made in the form of disk 16 of diameter which is larger than diameter of hole 15 in float 14. Provided on lower surface is resilient shock-absorbing ring 17.
