FIELD: logging and forestry. SUBSTANCE: method involves dividing birch branches with buds into parts of predetermined size by grinding them to chip size; threshing chips and separating buds. Chips are threshed by friction. Buds are separated by difference in frictional properties of surfaces of buds and chip small fraction particles. Apparatus with threshing and bud separating mechanisms is further provided with self-propelled wheeled high-passability chassis carrying drum-type machine for chopping branches into chips, large chip fraction thrower, cleaner for separating buds from small-fraction chips. Cleaner has device for automatic fixation of predetermined cleaner inclination angle on unit stop, birch bud accumulating unit for accumulating buds during stocking of buds in cold season of the year and replaceable set of pneumatic separator and hopper for stocking tree foliage during warm season of a year. Threshing mechanism has friction-type threshing unit and separating mechanism has revolving screen. Threshing unit and revolving screen are mounted on self-propelled wheeled chassis.
