FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: quality of welds is determined in many respects by weld width and presence of flaws. Determination of these parameters in welds of fuel elements is conducted by ultrasonic method. In this case ultrasonic beam scans weld sideways, echo signal and coordinates are recorded, data are processed by computer and ultrasonic images of projection of weld are generated. One edge of weld is determined by appearance of signal reflected from surface of end part and second edge of weld is found by 1.5-2.5 decrease of signal reflected from internal surface of jacket. Values of amplitudes and time of arrival of reflected signals by which ultrasonic images of projection of weld and its section are reconstructed are entered into storage of computer. EFFECT: increased authenticity and informativity of test, 1.5-2.0 time decrease of error in measurement of weld width. 10 dwg
