FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: styrene is produced by dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene on iron oxide catalysts at 560-640 C in presence of water steam followed by isolation of styrene from dehydrogenation product (furnace oil) through multistep rectification with sequential isolation of benzene-toluene fraction, return ethylbenzene, and rectified styrene. Process is distinguished by that content of styrene in ethylbenzene charge entering dehydrogenation reactor is maintained at the level of 0.15 wt % resulting in rise of ethylbenzene conversion from 62.9 to 67.9%. EFFECT: increased ethylbenzene conversion.
