FIELD: polymer production. SUBSTANCE: method includes polymerization or copolymerization of at least one conjugated diolefin with alkaline organometallic polymerization initiator in suitable solvent to form growing polymer. Polymer growth is broken by alkali metal hydride and double bonds in conjugated diolefin polymer chain units are selectively hydrogenated in presence of at least one bis(cyclopentadienyl)titanium compound, lithium-hydrocarbon and alkoxy-lithium compound being absent. Treatment of polymer with reagent, which reacts with alkali metal present in polymer before hydrogenation, enhances catalyst activity.
