FIELD: chemistry of polymers. SUBSTANCE: claimed method comprises polymerization or copolymerization of at least one conjugated diene in suitable solvent in the presence of polymerization initiator such as organic alkali metal compound to form living polymer. Polymerization is stopped by addition of hydrogen, and selective hydrogenation of double bonds is carried out in conjugated diene fragments in polymer formed due to chain termination which occurs in the presence of at least one bis (cyclopentadienyl) titanium compound. Promoter is alkyl benzoate at hydrogenation stage. The most preferable promoter is methyl benzoate. The claimed method uses titanium to alkyl-benzoate molar ratio of 1:1 to 1:6, respectively. Amount of titanium compound is 0.04-1.0 mole per 100 wt parts of polymer. Alkali metal to titanium ratio is at least 2:1. EFFECT: more efficient preparation method. 6 cl, 1 dwg
