ROCKET PROJECTILE WITH INCENDIARY (SMOKE) MIXTURE AND METHOD OF HITTING BY PROJECTILE Russian patent published in 1999 - IPC

FIELD: defence equipment, applicable in ampul (capsule) flame throwers, in which the projectile (capsule, ampul) in charged with liquid or thickened (pasty) incendiary (smoke) mixture. SUBSTANCE: projectile charged with incendiary or smoke mixture has a body with front cover with a free space before it, base fuze and air ignition-expelling charge; they are placed in the central axial sleeve; provision is made for a tail fin with obliquely placed plates. Members reinforcing the mixture into pieces are formed by cross-shaped bundles of polyester thread or band, in which the latters are laid by loops of different length and fastened in point of their intersection, for instance, bound or stitched. The body central sleeve is made of plastic metal, its wall from the outside has longitudinal and uniformly distributed thinnings. Mixture is separated from the front cover by a pliable partition made permeable for mixture vapors and having the shape of a part of hollow sphere, installed with the convex side to the mixture with an elastic stop around the edges against the projectile body wall, and pressed to the mixture by a flexible member installed between it and the front cover of the projectile, made releasable at operation. The method of hitting by the projectile consists in longitudinal acceleration of the projectile in the weapon barrel, its spinning and longitudinal deceleration in the trajectory and dispersing of mixture on target; at longitudinal acceleration of projectile in the weapon barrel the central sleeve gets deformed by mixture pressure due to action of g-load, and projectile spinning and longitudinal deceleration in the trajectory are accomplished so as to provide creation of a channel in mixture in the projectile axis contracting to the front cover and communicating with the free cavity before it. Mixture dispersing is accomplished in the projectile axis in the direction of fire; to this end, the cavity of the mixture contracting channel and the free cavity communicating with it are filled under the pressure of combustion products of the ignition-expelling charge, the front cover is released, and from this moment they intensively decelerate the projectile body, display mixture in it to the front open end, successively separate from it the reinforced pieces with surfaces of the contracting channel, expel them from the projectile body and flow around the mixture pieces by combustion products of the ignition-expelling charge from all sides and precipitate solid particles from their compound onto the surface of pieces.
