FIELD: biotechnology. SUBSTANCE: method consists in performing control with maximization of physiologically based productivity optimization criterion by means of selecting cells from suspension being in light-independent growth phase. Installation comprises closed circuit including photoreactor with intermittent or continuous irradiation of microorganisms by external light source, heat exchanger, gas-exchanger, suspension consumption stimulus, discharge and suction pipelines. In addition, installation is provided with photosynthesis measurement system including two dissolved oxygen sensors, oxygen concentration gas-analyzers, and computation unit, and also control circuit for selection of cells mainly being in light- independent growth phase. Circuit consists of separator and computing unit-controlled gate varying uptake of suspension supplied into separator. Outputs of dissolved oxygen sensors and oxygen concentration gas-analyzers are connected with controlling computation unit inputs and outputs of the latter are connected with above- mentioned controlled gate. Such method and installation give rise to 1.4-1.6-fold increased propagator productivity. EFFECT: increased propagator productivity. 3 cl, 1 dwg, 1 tbl
