SUBSTANCE: claimed process comprises reacting nucleophilic compound and azocompound in the presence of suitable solvent system and suitable base at 10-150 C in restrictive reaction zone. Nucleophilic compound is selected from aniline and aniline substituted derivative. Azocompound is compound of formula: X-R₁-N=N-R₂-Y, wherein X and Y are hydrogen, R₁ and R₂ are both phenyl. The claimed process is non-halide process for preparing substituted aromatic azocompounds and substituted aromatic amines and does not use expensive removal of halogen from sewage streams.
