FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: described is preparation of substituted aromatic amines which comprises adding nucleophillic compound and azo-containing compound to each other in the presence of suitable system of solvents, reacting nuclophillic compound with azo- containing compound in the presence of suitable base and controllable amount of protonic product at temperature equal or from about 10 C to about 150 C within restricted reaction parameters wherein protonic product to base molar ratio varies from 0:1 to about 5: 1, and reducing reaction product of nuclophillic compound and azo- containing compound under conditions which result in producing substituted aromatic amine.
