FIELD: petrochemistry. SUBSTANCE: paraffinic hydrocarbons are hydrogenated at temperature from 450 to 800 C, pressures from 0.1 to 3 abs atm and volumetric gas rate from 100 to 1000 h h-1 in the presence of catalyst which comprises (wt %): preferably 6.0-30.0 (13-25) Cr2O3; 0.1-3.5 (0.2- 2.8) SnO; 0.4-3.0(0.5-2.5) MeO; 0.08-3.0 (0.08-3.0 SiO2, and the Al2O3 balance wherein Me is alkali metal, preferably potassium.
