FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: invention describes improved method of preparing isoprene by liquid phase dehydration of 3- methyl-1,3-butanediol (MBD) at 105-135 C in the presence of 2-40 wt % phosphoris acid as catalyst at pressure of 1.1-3.0 atm absolute. Desired product is isolated by distillation as distillate at 40-80 C. MBD is dehydrated in pure form either as industrial mixture of as aqueous solution containing phosphoric acid. Method makes is possible to increase yield of isoprene to 92 mol% per converted MBD. EFFECT: more efficient preparation method. 3 cl, 6 ex
