FIELD: petrochemical syntheses and rubber industry. SUBSTANCE: invention concerns production of isoprene via interaction of formaldehyde with isobutylene, or isobutylene/tert-butyl alcohol mixtures, or tert-butyl alcohol in an aqueous medium in presence of phosphoric acid as catalyst and compounds providing cupric cations and nitrate anions in quantities sufficient to maintain values of electrode potential of inside surface of equipment within a range of 0.0 to +0.5 V against silver chloride reference electrode. Process is carried out at elevated temperature and pressure in two in-series arranged reaction zones in noncorrosive steel and alloy equipment involving aqueous catalyst solution recirculation. EFFECT: simplified process and increased isoprene yield. 2 cl, 5 ex
