SUBSTANCE: electric drive has top and bottom current collectors, circuit breaker, input filter with reactor and capacitor, ripple reactor, electric motor with armature and field windings, voltage changer, starting, braking, and auxiliary contactors, starting, braking, auxiliary, and additional diodes, braking, limiting, shunting, additional, and ballast resistors, current and voltage sensors, control unit, and mode setting element. Voltage changer may incorporate main and auxiliary pulse choppers and backward diode or it may optionally have two main transistors, two switching thyristors, two auxiliary thyristors, switching capacitor, and two backward diodes. Drive is characterized in increased braking power, limited voltage across drive components, and reduced initial charging current of input filter capacitor.
