FIELD: transport engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electric transport and it can be used in traction of city transport, namely cars of underground railway, street cars, trolleybuses. Proposed traction drive contains series-wound traction dc motors, dc voltage converters and diode bridge circuits. Each dc voltage converter is made in form of bridge consisting of four power semiconductor reverse conductance switches. Traction electric motors are connected across ac terminals of dc voltage converter. Field windings of traction motors are connected across dc terminals of diode bridges. Invention provides electric rheostatic braking, braking by plugging and substituting regenerative-rheostatic braking of traction motors. EFFECT: enlarged range of use of electric braking down to complete stopping of vehicle. 1 dwg
