METHOD FOR PROVIDING BLOOD COMPONENTS WITH STROKE CODE Russian patent published in 1999 - IPC

FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves acquiring information using computer network to provide for blood samples identification and products of its processing. First of all, a set of 6-10 blood collection labels provided with stroke codes. The labels are glued to packages and test tubes and containers containing blood-processing products received from one donor in process of taking blood and associated documents hard copies are marked with the labels. The blood collection number assigned to a blood sample is read from label block in the process of initial identification as input to data base. Donor code and the blood collection number are brought in correspondence. Then the stroke code is read in inputting information from container or test tube label to select product appropriate for medical treatment purposes. All obligatory laboratory test results availability and their conformity to reference values is proved. Label having encoded information is printed when the product is found to be adequate after its passing all stages of control and glued to the package containing product. Package information is at the same time transmitted through computer network to finished products warehouse where additional computer control is carried out to prove correspondence of label to data base contents. The registration documents are produced and repeated reading is carried out in giving the product to consumer. EFFECT: reduced risk of infection spread among transfusion patients.
