FIELD: mining industry. SUBSTANCE: method and device can be used for cutting blast-holes in rock and frozen ground which are acceptable for thermal drilling. Method of thermal cutting of hard materials includes following operations: delivery of fuel and oxidizing agent through bore of thermal tool barrel, swirling of oxidizing agent and fuel in combustion chamber, subjecting material being cut to action of combustion product. Oxidizing agent from point of its delivery to bore of tool barrel to combustion chamber is preliminarily subjected to swirling. Combustion products fall to material being cut through spiral nozzle. Thermal tool for cutting hard materials has following components: barrel, injector, combustion chamber, units for delivery of fuel and oxidizing agent, spiral nozzle. Barrel is made in the form of tube with sections which are equally deformed to certain angle with respect to central axis. Aforesaid method and tool allow for increasing kinetic energy together with raising temperature of gas jet brought to bear on material being cut. In addition, design of device is simplified.
