FIELD: carbon adsorbents. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to activated carbon that can be, for example, used in microbiological, food, and alcohol industries. Method of invention involves alkaline hydrolysis lignin prepared by impregnating hydrolysis lignin with alkali in two or several steps each lasting for 1-1.5 hr with intermediate washings. Total water duty is 6 or higher and temperature 80-85 C. Alkaline lignin is dried, granulated, carbonized at 450-800 C in carbon dioxide flow, and activated. Before activation, volatilization of lignin component at 600-800 C, e.g. in carbon dioxide flow, is possible. EFFECT: increased adsorption capacity. 2 cl, 2 ex
