FIELD: chemistry of polymers. SUBSTANCE: 1,2- dihydromethyl quinoline is prepared by condensation of aniline with acetone in the presence of catalyst, polymerization of monomer fraction in individual reactor in the presence of said catalyst, neutralization with non-polar solvent and isolation of product from organic layer. Catalyst is mixture of hydrochloric acid and polyoxyphenol or alkyl derivative or ether thereof in molar ratio of 1: 0.0001-0.02. Use of said catalyst mixture makes it possible to carry out polymerization at atmospheric pressure with high degree of conversion with respect to monomer and high selectivity with preferably conversion of 2 or 3 monomer units of 1,2-dihydro-2,2,4- trimethyl hinoline.
