FIELD: molecular biology, biochemistry. SUBSTANCE: gene encoding an enzyme oxalate oxidase can be used for protection of plants from oxalic acid produced by pathogenic microorganisms. Oxalate oxidase as a product of gene expression shows pH optimum 3.5, positive thermostability, resistance to proteases and exhibits a single subunit of molecular mass about 25 kDa. Transformation of plant using gene that encodes oxalate oxidase stimulates production of enzyme by plant and this enzyme catalyzes the decomposition of oxalic acid and therefore prevents the damage of plants by pathogens.
