FIELD: agriculture. SUBSTANCE: samples of preserving feed produced by different countries for dogs and cats are taken an average specimen is prepared from the total sample. An average specimen is dried to air-dry state, milled and diffusion reflection spectra using IR-analyzer of each sample are recorded at their simultaneous analysis by conventional chemical methods to determine nitrogen content followed by remeasurement for content of "crude" protein, "crude" fat, "crude" ash, calcium, phosphorus and hygroscopic moisture. For spectrum of each sample data concerning the content of each the above indicated index are included, combined calibrating equations are calculated by method of the minimal fractional squares using the second derivatives and optimal wavelengths and coefficients for each of the above indicated 8 indices of quality are determined. Invention can be used for assay of quality of preserving feeds for dogs and cats. EFFECT: accelerated method of assay and analysis. 8 tbl
