FIELD: wood chemical, and paper and pulp industries. SUBSTANCE: terpene hydrocarbons are treated with 1.0-10% aqueous solution of acid halogenamide at ratio of oxidizer to terpene hydrocarbons from 0.1 to 1:1 at pH of medium from 1 to 12. Oxidizer includes sodium salt crystallohydrate of paratoluenesulfonic acid chloroamide, acetic acid N-chloroamide and N,N-dichlorourea. EFFECT: improved method of removing terpene hydrocarbons to total sulfur content of not higher than 0.005 % and increased yield of the desired product. 6 cl, 1 tbl
