FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: polyvinyl ehter having end groups and molecular weight of 300-1200 is prepared by polymerization of vinyl ether in the presence of initiator, e.g. water, alcohol, phenol, acetal and Brensted acid catalyst or organometallic compounds. Polyvinyl ether is used as lubricating oil for compressor type refrigerators. Polyvinyl ether based lubricating oil is nicely miscible with freons, has superb stability and lubricating properties.
