FIELD: applied acoustics, detection of local defects. SUBSTANCE: sound waves in accordance with method are directed vertically over acoustic line to tie foot, direction of sound is so changed that sound passing along tie foot hits window of receiving acoustic line, direction of acoustic vibrations is changed to vertical one by their direction to receiving path and magnitude of clearance is determined by degree of dying down of sound. Acoustic sonde for implementation of method has transmitting path with sound wave radiator and receiving path with sound wave detector and measuring device. Sound wave radiator is acoustically coupled to transmitting acoustic line in which end acoustic reflector is mounted at angle. Sound wave detector is acoustically coupled to receiving acoustic line that has acoustic reflector arranged at angle with reference to axis of acoustic line.
