FIELD: production of building materials; applicable in construction of industrial and civic buildings. SUBSTANCE: additive to mortar mixtures contains, wt.%: calcium oxide 90-92; calcium ferrite 8- 10. Used in method for production of said additive is initial raw material in form of slime of water softening in thermal power stations. Slime is roasted at temperature of 500-700 C in atmosphere of water steam at pressure of 10²-10⁵ Pa. Mortar mixture contains sand, additive containing, wt.%: calcium oxide 90-92 and calcium ferrite 8-10 and water with the following amounts of mortar mixture components, wt. %: sand 67.8-74.1; said additive 9.8-14.5; the balance, water. Mortar mixture may also contain sand; additive containing, wt.%: calcium oxide 90-92; calcium ferrite 8-10; cement and water with the following amounts of components, wt. %: sand 68-73; said additive 1.0-2.0; cement 11.0-14.0; the balance, water. EFFECT: increased compression strength after hardening with high other operating characteristics, such as good water retaining properties, high mobility, no separation of layers, large volumes of utilized slime of water softening of thermal power stations. 4 cl
