FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: alkenes are hydrated in the presence of solid and/or water soluble catalyst(s) at elevated temperature in one or more vertical reaction zones with aqueous and hydrocarbons streams flowing in direct or counterdirect direction so that phase containing predominantly hydrocarbons is used as solid liquid phase and dispersible phase containing predominantly water are used in at least one reaction zone. Also described are method embodiments which are different in inlets for original products, presence and inlet for recyclable products, type of reactor used wherein tert- and non-tert alkenes are subsequently hydrated. Said method makes it possible to obtain tertiary and/or nontert; ary alcohols and to recover tert-and/or non-tertiary alkenes from hydrocarbon mixtures. EFFECT: more efficient hydration method. 5 cl, 4 dwg, 10 ex, 1 tbl
