FIELD: chemistry of polymers. SUBSTANCE: described is method of preparing dimethyl ethers of 1,2- oxirane oligomers by oxialkylation of 1,2- dimethoxyethane-Lewis acid complex with olefin oxide at 1,2-dimethoxyethane to olefin oxide molar ratio from 1:1 to 1:16. In preparing oligomers having polymerization degree of greater or equal to 8-10, process is carried out in inert solvent at 1,2-dimethoxyethane to olefin oxide molar ratio of 1:(10-16) and Lewis acid to 1,2-dimethoxyethane molar ratio of (0.15-0.21):1. Said method makes it possible to prepare full dimethyl ethers of olefin oxide oligomers with polymerization degree from 1 to 10 which are defect free in end groups and contain various side functional groups in polyether chain.
