FIELD: protective and decorative coatings for products from wood, metallic and other surfaces. SUBSTANCE: composition comprises organic solvent and alkyl resin. Resin is product of reaction of 37-60 wt % of vegetable oil, 12.5-23.0 wt % polyhydric alcohol, 0-22 wt % or resin and 19-38 wt % of overhead distillate resulting from phthalic anhydride production. Overhead distillate is by-product resulting from industrial phthalic anhydride production carried out by vapor-phase catalytic oxidation of o-xylene or naphthalene. Product comprises 80-92 wt % of phthalic anhydride and 8-20 wt % of maleic anhydride and benzoic acid at 1:3 to 1:12 weight ratios.
