FIELD: lifting and transport engineering. SUBSTANCE: according to proposed method, by warning or prohibiting signals from overvoltage protection device mounted on boom of self-propelled crane manifesting that crane approaches power line and threshold values of boom travel are exceeded, limits of boom working motions according to boom turning angle, boom lifting height and radius are set to define zone of safe operation of boom. Working motion limits are set depending on value of warning signals indicating that crane approaches power line and prohibiting signals indicating that threshold values of boom travel are exceeded. Beyond the limits of zone of allowed movements of boom from side of power line, limitation of boom radius, depending on its turning angle, are provided basing on condition of equality of projections of radii onto normal to axial line of power line and on condition that length of indicated projections is less than distance from axial line to crane along normal. EFFECT: provision of safe operation of boom self- propelled cranes in vicinity of aerial power lines. 2 cl, 4 dwg
