FIELD: linear ac generator drives. SUBSTANCE: engine is built up of self-contained modules. Each module has two opposing cylinders accommodating pistons which are coupled with linear generator armature. Electronic control unit functions to control elements injecting fuel in cylinders depending on frequency or working cycle repetition period deviation in cylinders and electric current phase deviation. Opposing cylinders may be mounted in common casing usually cylindrical in shape. Pistons may be built integral with armature to form two-way armature-and-piston assembly. Generators of cumulatively functioning modules may be combined for at least part of modules. EFFECT: improved operating efficiency and reliability of engine, reduced outburst, fuel consumption, size, and mass. 6 cl, 3 dwg
