FIELD: nuclear engineering. SUBSTANCE: method that includes assembling of cermet blank of core with sleeve made of same material and joint high-temperature extrusion of three-layer tube involves cutting of three-layer tube in a lathe into fuel bushings whose height equals length of cermet core in finished fuel element; then they are placed in thin-wall metal ingot of cladding and assembly is subjected to cold drawing at 2-3% strain followed by high- temperature gas reduction of fuel element. In this way, high uranium concentration and stable length of fuel element active layer are attained. EFFECT: improved performance characteristics of fuel element.
