FIELD: checking of sound propagation speed in liquid media. SUBSTANCE: meter has counter-type divider, pulse distributor, exciting pulse generator, pulse clipper, comparator, primary electroacoustic transducer with reflector, duration discriminator, switching element, frequency-controlled generator, pulse former and recorder. Introduction of frequency detector and univibrator of controlled duration provides for enhanced measurement accuracy by reduction of frequency pulsation of output signal and for obtaining high speed of response through stepped variation of duration of correcting-action pulse to maximum value under condition of tracking of sonic speed value and to minimum value in steady-state mode of operation.
