FIELD: water toxicology. SUBSTANCE: aquatic organisms are incubated in test water containing petroleum derivatives and in pure water (reference) estimating oil pollution by means of aquatic organisms involving fluorescent microscopy technique. Aquatic organisms utilized are Crustacea having fat inclusions. Presence of petroleum derivatives is detected from blue-violet fluorescence provided by these inclusions.
